New adventures make us super giddy, especially when they involve traveling out of the country! So it goes without saying that we were stoked out of our minds when Jena + Matt asked us to shoot their wedding in Tulum, Mexico. We love destination weddings for so many reasons – the traveling, the fresh shooting locations, the new experiences, the culture – but one of the biggest is the extra time we get to spend with our couples getting to know them, and just hanging out. Jena + Matt invited us to not just their wedding day, but the entire celebration which spanned a few days and was a total blast. We love when our clients become our friends, and that’s exactly what happened. :)
Pre-wedding
We arrived in Tulum a day early to scout locations. What a stunning place! We met the whole crew, which included 13 of Jena + Matt’s friends. Everyone welcomed us with open arms and we were instant homies. We loved Jena + Matt’s desire to have a fun-filled, memory-making trip with their friends. It made for such a meaningful time for everyone involved.
Wedding Day
Sunrises in Mexico aren’t half bad. :) Jena led her girls in a early-morning yoga session before getting ready.
While the girls slaved away on their beauty, the boys were having some fun poolside.
Jena + Matt had no official plans for a first dance, but we stumbled upon a performance at the resort and they invited them on-stage. What a fun surprise!
Amos gettin’ his duck lip on.
After the duck lip debacle, I obviously needed a shot with these awesome ladies who totally welcomed me into their posse. :)
Post-wedding
Tulum is home to ancient Mayan ruins, so the whole crew did a tour. They sure do know how to pick beachfront property. Hands down one of the coolest beaches we’ve visited!
A trip wouldn’t be complete without a little bit of shopping. :)
We also had plenty of time to do a casual shoot of the new Mr. + Mrs. :)
Jena + Matt, thanks for being fantasically awesome + inviting us along for your adventure! Congratulations and much love to you!
